The Miami Marlins won 10-9 against the New York Mets on Saturday, thanks to a victorious single from Quebecer Otto Lopez at the bottom of the 10th inning.

Leading 3-2 in the fifth inning, the Mets had an offensive explosion. New York scored four points to make it 7-2. Otto Lopez, however, took matters into his own hands for the Marlins, hitting a double that allowed Nick Gordon to score in the 7th inning. Miami then added two more runs in the inning to cut the lead to two points.

The Marlins’ efforts seemed in vain, however, as the Mets produced two more runs in the top of the ninth to make it 9-5 New York. Except that Josh Bell’s home run, good for three runs, brought everyone back to square one, forcing another inning.

With Christian Bethancourt at third base, Otto Lopez did not miss his chance. The 25-year-old Quebecer hit a single into the middle of the field to give his team the victory.

In 21 games this year, he has 13 hits, three home runs and nine RBIs. He spent the first two seasons of his career with the Toronto Blue Jays and was traded to the San Francisco Giants in February before joining the Marlins.

He will be in action on Sunday as Miami faces the Mets again.
