As of: 3:42 p.m. | Reading time: 3 minutes

Holstein Kiel wins in Wiesbaden and is very close to promotion to the Bundesliga. The North Germans only need one point next Sunday to be promoted to the first division for the first time. The other two games offer goals en masse – the second division at a glance.

Holstein Kiel is close to the first promotion in the club’s history to the Bundesliga. The North Germans celebrated a 1-0 (0-0) win against newly promoted SV Wehen Wiesbaden, who were in serious danger of relegation, and thus took over the lead in the table from FC St. Pauli.

Two game days before the end of the season, Kiel are one point ahead of Hamburg and five points ahead of third-placed Fortuna Düsseldorf, against whom a draw in the top game next Saturday is enough to secure promotion. Timo Becker scored the victory against Wiesbaden in front of 10,112 spectators in the 65th minute.

In an even opening phase, Nikolas Agrafiotis had the first chance for the home team, but finished too unplaced. After a quarter of an hour, the guests became stronger, but only posed a moderate goal threat with long-range shots and a free kick from Philipp Sander (24th). On the other side, Holstein keeper Timon Weiner again blocked a shot from Agrafiotis to the side.

Shortly before half-time, Kiel were lucky that Weiner was able to direct a shot from Ivan Prtajin over the crossbar and shortly afterwards a header from Marcus Mathisen was disallowed according to video evidence.

In the second half, the North Germans increased the pressure. After Tom Rothe had maneuvered the ball from close range into the side netting after an hour, Becker scored with a header from a corner five minutes later. Wiesbaden’s Keanan Bennetts, who had recently been substituted, unfortunately deflected the ball with his hip.

SV Elversberg – Hertha BSC 4:2

Newcomer SV Elversberg crowned their secure stay in the second division with a home win against Hertha BSC. The Saarlanders beat the Bundesliga relegated team 4:2 (1:1) and now have 43 points in their account as tenth in the table. The capital club remains in ninth place with 45 points.

Luca Schnellbacher with a brace in the 18th and 54th minutes, Paul Wanner (65th) and Kevin Koffi (88th) scored the goals for the promoted team, whose league stay was already certain before kick-off due to the mistakes made by the competition the day before. Florian Le Joncour (27th) with an own goal and Palko Dardai (61st) scored for Hertha.

Only after falling behind did Hertha wake up and initiate its first dangerous attacks. Haris Tabakovic (25th) hit the post with his head after a cross from Fabian Reese, but shortly afterwards the ball was in the Elversberg goal. Following a corner, Reese headed past Le Joncour, who unfortunately deflected the ball into his own net.

After the change, the newcomer’s defender missed the first chance to take the lead again, which Schnellbacher managed to do a little later. The SVE captain scored with a powerful shot from a tight angle. But once again the Berliners had a quick answer through coach Pal Dardai’s older son. However, the home team were not shocked by this and celebrated their deserved victory in the end.

Hannover 96 – SC Paderborn 3:2

Hannover 96 and SC Paderborn had a wild exchange of blows. After an early 3-0 lead, the 96ers ultimately managed a narrow 3-2 (3-2) win. The sixth in the table also provided arguments for further collaboration with his coach Stefan Leitl. Despite a contract valid until 2025, the 46-year-old’s whereabouts in Hanover are not yet certain.

In front of 35,500 spectators, the Paderborn team handed out two gifts right at the start: the 1-0 by Lars Gindorf (6th minute) and the 3-0 by Nicolo Tresoldi (18th) each had two completely unsuccessful back passes from SCP defenders Visar Musliu and Marcel Hoffmeier ahead. Andreas Voglsammer scored the 2-0 for Hannover (11th). However, Paderborn came close again before the break thanks to Koen Kostons (27th) and Raphael Obermair (40th).
