Good morning friends of OA Sport and welcome to the LIVE LIVE of the fourth day of the 2024 World Judo Championshipswhich will take place in Abu Dhabi from 19 to 24 May. The world championship represents the important event, with medals and important points up for grabs with a view to the Olympic qualification ranking for the Paris 2024 Games. The tournaments of the -70 kg, -78 kg women categories are on stage today; -90 kg men.
The Italian national team has available 18 athletes competing in the individual tests: Assunta Scutto (-48 kg), Odette Giuffrida (-52 kg), Veronica Toniolo (-57 kg), Angelo Pantano and Andrea Carlino (-60 kg), Savita Russo and Flavia Favorini (-63 kg), Elios Manzi and Matteo Piras (-66 kg), Irene Pedrotti and Kim Polling (-70 kg), Giovanni Esposito and Manuel Parlati (-73 kg), Alice Bellandi (-78 kg), Asya Tavano (+78 kg), Antonio Esposito (- 81 kg), Christian Parlati (-90 kg) and Gennaro Pirelli (-100 kg). Others will join them four Italians called up for the team competition: Thauany David Capanni Dias (-57 kg), Manuel Lombardo (-73 kg), Lorenzo Rigano (-90 kg) and Nicholas Mungai (+90 kg). The Italian team has so far won gold with Odette Giuffrida and silver with Assunta Scutto.

Nei -70 kg Irene Pedrotti and Kim Polling (who makes her debut with the blue jersey in a major international event) they won’t have a simple scoreboard. Pedrotti could face Puerto Rican Perez in the 2nd round, while the Italian-Dutch will have Croatian Lara Cjetko on her way. For Alice Bellandi in the -78 kg category, the potential clash in the round of 16 against the Portuguese Sampaio will be a “crash-test”, possibly awaiting the confrontation with the Korean Yoon in the quarterfinals. In the men’s field in the -90 kg Christian Parlati will check his physical condition, facing in the second round the winner between the American Jayne and the Azerbaijani Talibov.
