Zadina was furious, he attacked Antoš: He is no expert. A war will probably start

Nobody expected this. No, now it’s not really about the result, that Pardubice won 6:2 in Třinec and leveled the final at 2:2. You could bet on that even at a fairly decent rate. But after the match, the dialed-up coach Marek Zadina came and told Milan Antoš that his opinions influenced the referees’ commission, which adjusted the rules for the final. “There’s probably going to be a war. OK, let it go. But he makes himself an expert in quotes, for me there is no expert,” the coach from Pardubice blurted out.

Marko Zadina’s first sentence went in the expected spirit. “We played an excellent game,” he said after the win in Třinec, where his team took nine minor penalties. Then he stopped, took a breath, and shifted the conversation. “It is difficult. It is very difficult when someone is influenced a lot through the media. Our fouls were, the referees did a great job, they were great on Saturday too. But I don’t like the influence the experts have. That is, in quotation marks, experts.’

Originally, in a rush of emotions, he blurted out that former striker Milan Antoš had appeared against his Pardubice team on Czech television. But then he clarified his statement that he meant the podcast on sport.cz. The former striker criticized Pardubice’s behavior around goalkeeper Ondřej Kacetl. According to him, it was way over the line. “Antoš played in goal all his life. Now he’s saying some things here… There’s probably going to be some kind of war. OK, let it go. But he makes an expert in quotes, for me there is no expert. The fans don’t know the hockey environment and listen to him, I don’t agree with him. He’s dirtying our organization, our players,” everything in Zadin slammed.

Before the weekend, the head of referees, Vladimír Pešina, sent an email to the finalists, where it is written about the change in hockey. It declared a ban on playing around the goal area. In popular terms, you can’t make goalkeepers angry anymore. As a result, the plan that worked for them was actually taken away from Pardubice. “But we will argue with that. We are strong,” grumbled the Pardubice coach.

However, the new rules for playing in the goal area are eating him up. “The committee is making some arrangements, but this is the playoff final. People want to see emotion and that belongs here. The fact that someone pats someone on the concrete in quotation marks?” raged Zadina. “Look at the NHL, how the players follow each other, how they play in the goal area, but they are fair to each other. I really enjoy this and I like it,” he continued.

Třinec coach Zdeněk Moták rolled his eyes during his monologue, looked at the floor and was obviously shocked by his colleague’s outburst.

“I’m not against Třinec, I take it in general. But what happened to the final here? Třinec is a great team and there are great guys there. I respect their strength, but I don’t respect what is going on here against Pardubice,” continued the Pardubice coach.

When asked by the newspaper Sport whether he thinks that one opinion that is not in line with the club’s point of view can really affect the work of the referees’ commission, he replied: “I agree that it shouldn’t be like that. We can’t give in to people who are on the air, have built their careers on playing in goal and played nothing else. Rather, I would like people who decide not to submit to these disgraced people and go against Pardubice.” He took Milan Antoš’s opinion very personally.

When the Třinec coach Zdeněk Moták got to speak, he stayed aside: “What the referees saw, they whistled. If they see icing? If there are interventions that we don’t want, they will whistle and say hi.”

Regarding the change in the whistling trend, he replied to a question from the daily Sport: “We are not to blame. I just don’t quite identify with the e-mail and videos from the judges’ committee. I saw a lot of other things there, which we consulted at the club.”

Pardubice won in Třinec thanks to the fact that they defended the Steelers’ power plays, even one 5 on 3 that lasted more than a minute and a half. But still, the main topic of the finale will be Marko Zadina’s thought waterfall to change the whistling trend: “Podcasts and social networks influence a lot of people. Officials and various commissions will succumb to it.”
