Yulimar Rojas misses the Paris Games due to injury

“To my country, Venezuela, to the family of the Olympic and sports Movement, especially to my followers; I want to inform you that I will not be able to participate in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. With great pain and sadness I want to tell you that training, at the reception of “I jumped, I had intense pain that resulted in an injury to my left Achilles tendon. My heart is also broken and I want to apologize for not being able to represent you at Paris 2024,” he said in a statement.

Rojas, 28, underwent surgery this Thursday at the CEMTRO Clinic, an operation led by the Doctor Pedro Guillénspecialist in traumatology and surgery, supported by Dr. Tomás Fernández.

“They have been very complex hours, in which I have questioned myself and analyzed why this has happened. However, I understand that, in God’s designs, we are only instruments of his will. Today I feel very emotionally affected by not being able to represent them, the desire to defend my Olympic title excited me enormously but today I have to stop, understand this, recover and come back with great strength to continue flying together,” he indicated.

At the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, Yulimar Rojas won the gold medal with an impressive mark of 15.67, breaking the world record. The Portuguese Patricia Mamona won the silver and the Spanish Ana PeleteiroRojas’ training partner with Iván Pedroso, the bronze.

Rojas also missed the World Indoor Athletics Championships in Glasgow (Scotland) in March to focus on the outdoor season ahead of the Games. The podium was taken by Dominican Thea LaFond, gold; the Cuban Leyanis Pérez, silver; and Peleteiro, bronze.
