Xavi Fumes at Refereeing Decisions as Barcelona Crash Out of Champions League

FC Barcelona was knocked out of the Champions League on Tuesday evening after losing 1-4 to PSG. Afterwards, coach Xavi was not happy with the arbitration.

FC Barcelona won 2-3 against PSG last week and therefore started the home game with a small lead. It quickly became 1-0, but then a red card changed the game picture. In the end, PSG won 1-4.

Araujo was sent off shortly before the half-hour mark. He took down the last man, but the contact with the hand on the PSG player’s shoulder was quite light.

Afterwards, coach Xavi was not happy with the arbitration decisions. “We are angry. The red card means that we are now eliminated. I think it is far too light to exclude someone for that phase,” he said, according to HLN at the rights holder Movistar.

“It’s a shame that because of him (the referee) our work of an entire season is lost. It was simply unnecessary. Afterwards we even had chances to make it 2-0 with Lewandowski and Gündogan.”

Then Xavi says that all decisions made by the refs are against Barcelona. “You’re right when you say we weren’t lucky with the referee’s decisions. But that’s how it has been all along.”

“Since I’ve been here, all the refs’ decisions have been against us. All of them, right? I don’t know what explanation they have for that. It’s just reality,” he concludes.
