Thailand U-23 coach Issara Sritaro reacted after the War Gajah team failed to qualify for the quarter-finals 2024 U-23 Asian Cup.

Thailand U-23 failed to qualify for the quarter-finals of the 2024 U-23 Asian Cup after finishing bottom of Group C.

The War Elephant Team is certain to be eliminated from the 2024 U-23 Asian Cup after losing 0-1 to Tajikistan in the final Group C match, Monday (22/4) evening WIB.

Tajikistan’s only goal was scored by Manuchekhr Safarov in the 90+1 minute in the match which was held at Al Janoub Stadium, Al Wakrah.

This defeat made Tajikistan shift Thailand’s position from third place in Group C standings.

Meanwhile, Thailand had to drop to fourth position and finish as bottom of Group C by collecting three points from the three matches played.

Finishing in caretaker position meant that Thailand also had to go home early because they failed to advance to the quarter-finals of the 2024 U-23 Asian Cup.

“First of all, thank you to the fans who came to cheer in the stadium and watched from home. We apologize that it didn’t go as expected. In this match, the young players performed well from the first half. We tried to keep the score and play tight so that the opponent doesn’t get a chance,” said Issara Sritaro after the match, quoted from Thairath.

“We also had many opportunities to score goals and take the lead. However, there was a final moment where we made a mistake and conceded a goal. But overall, all the players did their best,” added Issara Sritaro.

This result was very painful for Thailand considering that the War Elephant team was actually able to go through their first match perfectly by winning 2-0 over Iraq on April 16.

Then in the second match of Group C, Thailand suffered a crushing 0-5 defeat to Saudi Arabia on April 19.

Now Thailand is forced to follow Malaysia, which was eliminated from the 2024 U-23 Asian Cup first after suffering two defeats in the two matches played.
