Women’s PSG: Brazilian Luana, suffering from cancer, ends her career

Sad news from across the Atlantic this Monday evening. Luana Bertolucci Paixão, simply called Luana, announced on her social networks that she had Hodgkin’s lymphoma, a cancer that begins in the lymphocytes. Almost 31 years old, the Brazilian is playing this season with the Orlando Pride in the North American women’s football championship.

“I am going to undergo chemotherapy and I am counting on your support and your prayers,” writes the midfielder. I would like to thank my family and friends who helped me through this ordeal, as well as the Brazilian national team and Orlando Pride for their unconditional support. » This Tuesday, Luana received support from her former club, PSG, via social networks.

Player of the Parisian club from January 2020 to the summer of 2022, Luana was one of the pillars of the team led by Olivier Echouafni, French champion in 2021, even if her end of season had been spoiled by a serious injury to the knee. Adored by her teammates and fans, she returned to Brazil to play for Corinthians. Before joining Orlando, Florida, at the start of 2024.

Hodgkin’s lymphoma manifests itself by an enlargement of the lymph nodes, most often in the neck. These nodes are not painful and their development is slow. But when they become large, they can compress nearby organs and, for example when they are located in the thorax, cause coughing and/or difficulty breathing.
