Warriors Overcome Blazers with Scathing 16-1 in the Fourth Quarter to Secure Victory

NBA – The Warriors won a ninth game in ten games thanks to a scathing 16-1 in the last quarter to overcome the eye-catching Blazers (100-92).

After a 3/12 start to the match on shots with 5 lost balls, the Warriors, led by Stephen Curry (22 points, 8 assists, 7 rebounds) and Jonathan Kuminga (19 points, 6 rebounds), launched a 14-2 to take the lead (24-22). After Scoot Henderson (18 points, 12 assists, 9 lost balls) in the first quarter, it is DeAndre Ayton (25 points, 11 rebounds) and Duop Reath who hold the Dubs high. The impact of Andrew Wiggins (15 points) and Trayce Jackson-Davis (10 points, 8 rebounds, 4 blocks), however, kept Golden State in front at the break (49-46).

The Warriors, however, are playing with fire. The lost balls and offensive rebounds left to the Blazers allowed Chauncey Billups’ men to stay in the game. Jabari Walker (17 points, 16 rebounds) dominates near the rim as Portland’s zone defense frustrates Golden State. It took a layup from Trayce Jackson-Davis in the final seconds of the third period to give the Warriors the advantage (75-74).

The Blazers, however, are on the rise. Seven points from Kris Murray (14 points) launches an 11-4 which puts Portland at +6 (85-79)! Sensing the danger, Stephen Curry and… Kevon Looney (9 points, 11 rebounds, 4 blocks, 2 interceptions), omnipresent defensively and on offensive rebounds, took matters into their own hands.

Curry scores eight points and delivers three caviars for his pivot to sign a 16-1 which puts the Warriors at +9 with three minutes to play (95-86). The young Blazers are knocked out on their feet and a 3-pointer from Chris Paul definitively kills the match. The Warriors are now ninth, ahead of the Lakers!

WHAT YOU MUST REMEMBER

– Klay Thompson, Draymond Green, and Gary Payton II spared. After their victory in Los Angeles against the Lakers, the Warriors were already looking towards their home duel against the Pelicans, on the night of Friday to Saturday. As it is a “back-to-back”, the staff decided to rest three key members of their rotation: Klay Thompson, Draymond Green, and Gary Payton II. To ensure at least ninth place in the West, synonymous with home field advantage in the first play-in game, Golden State must win these last three games. Mission accomplished this evening, supposed victory on Sunday against Utah, but it is the match against New Orleans which risks deciding their final ranking.

17 away wins in the last 21 games for Golden State.

They played with fire by giving 19 points on loose balls and 20 offensive rebounds to the Blazers. They scared themselves to -6 nine minutes from the end of the match but the Warriors avoided the worst in Portland thanks to their defense. Diminished, not very rigorous, with a clumsy Stephen Curry, and 20 fewer shots than their opponents, the Dubs increased their defensive intensity, limiting the Blazers to 7 points in the last nine minutes. With this success, Golden State ends the season with 25 victories and 16 defeats away. This is the sixth best record away from their bases in their history.

– Tenth start in a row for Rayan Rupert. Drafted 43rd by the Blazers last June, Rayan Rupert continues to gain experience for a Portland team which has decided to give time to these young players since the All Star Game. The Frenchman had only played 16 games before the February break, he has played 21 since and started in the last ten games for the Blazers. If he was discreet last night, Chauncey Billups and his teammates have been showering him with compliments for several months, not hesitating to describe him as the team’s hardest worker.
