Vince Carter Among NBA Legends Inducted into Hall of Fame in 2024

Former Toronto Raptors player Vince Carter will be inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2024.

The group of inductees also includes Chauncey Billups, Michael Cooper, Seimone Augustus, Jerry West, Herb Simon, Doug Collins, Bo Ryan, Walter Davis, Charles Smith, Dick Barnett, Harley Redin and Michele Timms.

The announcement was made in Arizona on Saturday.

Carter played in the NBA for 22 seasons and was a finalist in his first year of eligibility in February.

Aged 47, Carter began his career with the Raptors (1998 to 2004) and was quickly recognized for his spectacular dunks, earning him the nickname “Vinsanity”.

Carter was drafted fifth overall by the Golden State Warriors in 1998, but was later traded to the Raptors for Antawn Jamison.

Invited to the All-Star game eight times, Carter was the rookie of the year in 1998-99 and won the dunk contest in 2000.

He also played for the New Jersey Nets, Orlando Magic, Phoenix Suns, Dallas Mavericks, Memphis Grizzlies, Sacramento Kings and Atlanta Hawks.

Carter is the only player in NBA history to play in four different decades. He also won the gold medal at the 2000 Sydney Olympics.

The temple opens for the third time to this NBA legend. Inducted as a player in 1980 and as a member of the 1960 United States team in 2010, this time he made his debut as a “contributor”. This is also a record.

The American, selected by the Boston Celtics third overall in the 1997 draft, was named to the All-Star team three times.

Simone Augustus

The former Minnesota Lynx player was crowned WNBA champion four times, in addition to participating in the all-star game eight times.

Augustus was also named the best collegiate player in the United States twice.

She has won three Olympic gold medals as well as a world championship in 2014.

The one who played 15 seasons in the WNBA was crowned rookie of the year in 2006.

Michael Cooper

A five-time NBA champion and eight-time NBA Defensive Team of the Year nominee, Magic Johnson’s former teammate with the Lakers played 12 seasons in the NBA.

He also coached for 24 years, in the NBA, WNBA and also at the university level.

Walter Davis

Recognized posthumously, Davis was a six-time All-Star and was named Rookie of the Year in 1978.

He also leads the Phoenix Suns and all 2024 inductees in career points in the NBA.

Bo Ryan, Michelle Tims, Doug Collins, Dick, Barnett, Harley Redin, Herb Simon and Charles Smith were also inducted.
