Victor Wembanyama Nearly Achieves Quadruple-Double in NBA Debut

There are double-doubles and triple-doubles aplenty in the NBA, but quadruple-doubles are rarer. For his first season in the United States, the phenomenon Victor Wembanyama almost achieved one last night.

With two passes and one block, the young Frenchman from San Antonio almost shook the NBA a little more. Beaten with the Spurs by the reigning champions, the Denver Nuggets, Victor Wembanyama flirted with a performance that would have been a landmark, in a championship hungry for statistics.

By scoring 23 points, grabbing 15 rebounds, and signing 8 assists and 9 blocks, the former Metropolitans 92 player almost signed a quadruple-double, which has not happened for a little over 30 years, in NBA, and the major performance of David Robinson, former Spurs player (34 points, 10 rebounds, 10 assists, 10 blocks).

That’s good, but… The 20-year-old Frenchman’s match didn’t really allow him to smile again, while his team recorded a 58th defeat in 76 games. “I have other priorities,” commented the person concerned, after assessing his ability to achieve a quadruple-double soon: “It’s going to happen.”

In the entire history of the NBA, this has only officially happened four times. Reality lists a (little) bit more, but blocks and interceptions were not counted before the 1973-1974 season.
