Uncertainty Surrounds Participation of Cuban Baseball Players in Premier 12: International Players Could Fill Roster

The participation in the Premier 12 of active Cuban baseball players on the 40-man roster of MLB teams is in doubt. However, other so-called international players could join the national team.

Journalist Carlos Alberto Hernández Luján, who reported the press conference organized by baseball directors on the island, confirmed the information that has been handled since the end of the World Classic and that they would once again have players who were not linked to the Federation to represent to the country.

“There are conversations with international players to represent Cuba, with priority for those who have already played with the team or participate in the National Series.”

However, the reporter clarifies that, according to Cuban baseball authorities, the players on the “MLB list of 40 are doubts so far to be approved for the Premier Tournament.”

However, it is not clear if the uncertainty has to do with the fact that both Yoan Moncada and Luis Robert – the only currently active players along with Andy Ibáñez who played with Cuba in the World Classic – are currently injured, or if there is some other impediment, such as authorization of your team.

In addition, the national and federative commissioner of baseball on the island said that “nine players invited to the MLB Training Camp are of interest to the Cuban Federation given their high level.”

On the other hand, at the press conference it emerged that, for the Premier 12, the representative of the island has not officially received any notification of the group in which it will be, although “it must be in Asia due to what is established for the location of teams.”

Recently, an ETtoday report assured that Cuba will be part of Group B along with South Korea, the Dominican Republic, Australia, Taiwan and Japan.

During the first edition of the event (2015), Cuba finished in fifth position with a discreet result. However, in a disastrous performance in the second version (2019), he finished in last place in his group, with just one victory.
