The baseball season is upon us with two Tyrrhenian teams at the starting line. The sport of bat and run does not enjoy widespread popularity at the moment in Italy, there are few spectators and media interest at a national level is almost non-existent. A real shame for a sporting discipline that has given so much success to athletes in the blue jersey and to clubs in European cups. The new season of the Al series will start quietly on April 20th. In group D where the two Nettuno teams appear, Nettuno 1945 will make its debut at the “Steno Borghese” against Padule. Free entry is expected for spectators, before the race there will be musical entertainment with the band of the Rome State Police. The intervention of the extraordinary commissioner of the Municipality of Nettuno, prefect Antonio Reppucci, was decisive for the usability of the Tyrrhenian diamond. On the second day Nettuno will play on Athletics Bologna’s diamond. Lions Nettuno will be on the field in Florence and in the following round there will be the debut at the “Reatini” stadium in Anzio (the new diamond for home matches) against Godo from Romagna. The derby is scheduled for the last match of the regular season. The first leg on May 19th in Anzio at the home of the Nettuno Lions, while the return leg on June 29th on the Nettuno 1945 field. The Nettuno Lions have entered into an interesting collaboration with the Anzio Dolphins, with the Neronian club granting some of its registered to play in the Nettuno team. In the two matches of each round, the Nettuno Lions will alternate their playing uniform with that of the Anzio Dolphins and both shirts will have the coat of arms of the other club. Nettuno2 has given up playing the Serie B championship and the club will dedicate itself to the youth sector.

Paolo Iannuccelli was born in Correggio, province of Reggio Emilia, on 2 October 1953. He lives in Nettuno, after having lived in Latina for over fifty years. He currently deals with publishing, communication and sport. A fundamental and important part of his life is dedicated to sport, in the role of athlete, coach, manager, journalist, organizer, promoter, consultant, in basketball. In his career he won seven championships as a coach, seven as president. He carried out voluntary work in structures hosting people in difficulty, always trying to help the weak and oppressed. He is a member of the Panathlon Club International, of the Terre Pontine Lions Club and of the National Union of Sports Veterans. In basketball he was a student of Asa Nikolic, the greatest European coach of all time. In sports journalism he was followed by Aldo Giordani, historic Rai commentator, founder and director of Superbasket magazine. He is currently president of the Associazione Basket Latina 1968. He has collaborated with local and national newspapers, published technical books on basketball and local history, customs and traditions. He deeply loves Latina and Ponza, the homeland of the heart.
