Tyler Herro’s Return: From Injury Woes to Playoff Hopes

Tyler Herro’s season rhymes with injury, injury and infirmary. The ankle, shoulder, and more recently the rear foot have forced him to miss 40 games this season, out of the 76 played by the Heat. His return is hoped for tonight against the Rockets.

The one who was already the big absentee from Miami’s adventure in the Playoffs last spring did not have the opportunity to find his feet in Spoelstra’s group. Herro has not played more than 11 consecutive games this season, constantly hampered by physical problems.

In the meantime, the Heat had to dial in their offense, breaking a franchise record of five different starters used. He had replacements in spades, but none stayed in place for long.

But according to insider Shams Charania, the return of the 6th man of the 2021-22 season is imminent, and could take place this evening in Houston.

There is optimism Miami Heat guard Tyler Herro – out since Feb. 23 with a foot injury – could return to the lineup on Friday vs. the Houston Rockets, sources tell @TheAthletic @Stadium. Herro traveled on team’s three-game trip to Houston, Indiana and Atlanta.

Despite the infirmary problems, Herro appeared in good form when he took the court this year. With 20.8 points, 4.4 assists and 39.9% from the park (all career bests)his return can be decisive a few days before the end of the regular season.

The Miami Heat is currently 7th in the Eastern Conference, less than a game behind first place which avoids the play-in, but also less than a game from the Sixers (8th). A small pocket handkerchief, which could well complicate things if we had to stuff Joel Embiid or risk going to Boston to start the postseason.

Except for Josh Richardson, whose season is over, Erik Spoelstra could have his entire group available tonight, as has rarely been the case since October. Final decision for Tyler Herro in the evening!
