A team of seven students from the Polytechnic University of Tlaxcala (UPTx) Poniente Region participated in the second archery control towards the Conade 2024 National Games, but it was two women who had the best aim and managed to advance to the third phase.

Last weekend, athletes Melanie Itzel Bonilla Pérez and Ana Yoselin Torres Camacho stood out from the selective team of the UPTx Poniente Region, during the competition that has ranking to add points for the national stage.

The young women were part of the selective team of the Inclusive Archery Development Center of said university, to compete in the competition that was held at the facilities of the Hidalguense High Performance Sports Center (CDHAR), on April 6.
They competed in the 50-meter test with a compound bow and were the only ones in the group who advanced to the third round in order to get the national ticket.

The competition brought together selective teams from Veracruz, Hidalgo and Tlaxcala, but the talent and skill of the two athletes from Tlaxcala positioned them among the first places to continue in the competition, an achievement they achieved with the help of Jorge Adalberto Carrillo Romero, coach and creator of the UPTx Poniente Region Archery Development Center.
He indicated that the young women competed by national ranking to advance to the next phase and reach the national level, but they still do not know the date and venue of the event at the country level; Prior to said competition, they will attend a discipline tournament in Mexico City, which will give them points.

He stated that the tournament will be regional and will include athletes from Veracruz, Hidalgo, the State of Mexico and the hosts; Last year, Tlaxcalan athletes achieved the first three places in the women’s branch in the 50-meter distance compound bow test.
The coach shared that the university development center has been created for two years and they have had the opportunity to participate consecutively in the Conade national event.
He indicated that the sports space serves 60 university archers from the women’s and men’s branches, who develop their skills with the bow.
