With a red head, Thomas Tuchel raged on the sidelines during Bayern’s defeat against Heidenheim. The action has consequences.

Munich – Although his departure as coach of FC Bayern has already been confirmed, Thomas Tuchel is not left unmoved by the poor performances of his players. This became clear when looking at the edge of the game field in Heidenheim.

60 minutes had been played and his players had just given away a 2-0 lead against 1. FC Heidenheim within 86 seconds. A club that is playing the first Bundesliga season in its history. Then the Bayern coach blew all his fuses.

With a very red head, Tuchel jumped up from his coaching bench and gestured wildly towards substitute referee Patrick Alt, who had to step in at half-time due to main referee Robert Schröder’s circulatory problems. The reason: a supposedly wrong throw-in decision.

Referee Alt didn’t hesitate for long and showed Tuchel a yellow card. One with consequences, because it is Tuchel’s fourth warning this season. The regulations stipulate that coaches will be suspended for one game after four yellow cards. Players, on the other hand, only after five.

“I was on my feet once”: Tuchel feels treated unfairly

The FCB coach is paying an expensive fine for his tantrum: he is not allowed to stand on the sidelines at the next Bundesliga game against 1. FC Köln. Assistant coach Zsolt Löw will then take over. Tuchel feels he has been treated unfairly. “I was on my feet once. I coached everything sitting down. And then immediately the yellow card,” he complained after the game.

At least the 50-year-old does not have to fear an early release after the embarrassment in Heidenheim. Both sports director Max Eberl, who instead attacked the players, and sports director Christoph Freund gave the Bayern coach a job guarantee for the next games.

“It’s not football that you throw the coach out on Saturday after such a defeat. That’s definitely not the way. Bayern have already fired coaches, but they are still where they are. It’s not always just a coaching problem.” But he left it open whether Tuchel would have to leave if the negative series continued. “I can’t answer that conclusively.” (epp)
