Tsitsipas in semifinal, Khachanov battuto

When Stefanos Tsitsipas sees Monte Carlo he transforms. And so, despite the profound crisis that he has been going through for a year now, the Greek is the first semi-finalist, beating Karen Khachanov without problems, with a very clear 6-4 6-2 against the man who only 24 hours ago had driven Daniil Medvedev crazy, eliminated after one of his usual outbursts. Tsitsi, who won the only Masters 1000 of his career here in 2021 and 2022, is looking for a hat trick, but will have to challenge the winner of the match between Holger Rune and our Jannik Sinner in the semifinals. The Tsitsipas seen in the Principality, however, seems very close to his prime. A player who appears to have found himself since he set foot on clay.

HE MATCH

Khachanov’s serve, which was lethal in the Russian derby against the world number 4, disappeared from the start of the match against the Greek. There are 3 consecutive breaks that open the match, then managed by Tsitsipas until the first set is 6-4, finished in 49 minutes. The second set lasts just over half an hour, where the Greek is dominant and looks like he was in his golden days. Khachanov barely goes up to 2-1 by canceling a break point, but Tsitsipas scores a run of 20 points to 4 that clears the Russian from the field and gives him the semi-final in an hour and 23 minutes of play. After having dominated over Djere and Etcheverry and with the easy success (except for a few final thrills) over Zverev, the Greek goes into the semi-final with a lot of confidence: but now comes the difficult part.
