León, Gto.- With the objective of forming the 3X3 Women’s Basketball Team that will represent Mexico in the 56th edition of the Children’s Games, the tryout for the 2009 and under category took place this weekend afternoon.
The Arturo ‘Mano Santa’ Guerrero auditorium, in the Enrique Fernández Martínez sports center, hosted this viewing directed by head coach Andrés Aguirre, who was accompanied by the coordinator of the 3X3 discipline José García.
At the end of the viewing, according to the competitive level of the participants, the coaches made a filter to keep only 12 girls with whom they made up the pre-selective.
“It was very pleasant to see the number of girls who came together for this viewing and all of them with a lot of quality, we found players with a lot of experience and others who perhaps do not have that experience, but we were surprised by their potential,” mentioned the head coach of this selective.
The main objective was to find girls with skills, basic fundamentals and technical concepts developed individually and as a team, “we received girls from various academies in the region and they did very well, I was surprised that, despite being youth, most of them have the requirements to be selected.”
However, in the end a first filter had to be made, “We were left with 12 girls to be able to have constant work forming 4 teams of 3 players; As the weeks go by, we will make cuts until we are left with the four girls who will represent the country in this competition,” said Andrés Aguirre.
As coordinator of the discipline, José García, highlighted that the most pleasant thing was allowing the girls to live this experience of working in a different way and that at their young age they participate in a vision for an international event.
‘Pepe’ García was the coach who took the Mexican team to the last Children’s Games, so he ensures that Mexico has the potential to do important things.
“It is not only the desire that these girls have to represent their country, they really have potential and according to the experience I had a year ago, we have many possibilities, due to the level and the time we have left to work I know that we will do a great role in this international event,” he concluded.
