It was in China. He leaves behind his wife and three children who live in Settimo
He died in an accident at work while traveling on board a ship in China. Ernesto Wong, 50 years old, Cuban baseball champion, resident in Settimo Torinese since 2003. Industrial plumber, he was working when, for reasons still to be clarified, he was crushed by the malfunction of a machine that gave him no escape. The news was given by the BC Settimo baseball club which plays in the Serie A championship.
«With extreme suffering BC Settimo – we read – announces the sudden loss of what was the soul, body and mind of the company. We join in the pain of Emanuela, Kevin, William and Alejandro and the whole family. Hi Erne.” The company explains that Wong would have “suddenly passed away during a business trip in Asia”.
He leaves his wife Emanuela, with whom he had been married since the beginning of the 2000s and for whom he had decided to move to Piedmont, to Settimo. And then three children, the eldest son Ernesto Leandro, 29 years old, the eighteen year old William, 18 years old, who followed in his father’s footsteps and is currently returning from Texas, as he plays for the Texas Rangers, and little Kevin, 12 years old.
Wong had played for the Cuban national team, then after arriving in Italy he played in Serie A with Senago, in Serie B with Vercelli, and then in Bc Settimo. After a career pursued since he was a child when, in order to play baseball, he started playing as a child in the streets of Havana, using broomsticks to hit corks, he managed to become a champion by playing and training in Cuba, in clubs and national teams. In Settimo since the end of the nineties, he had come to the city for love, he had taken over the youth sector of Settimo baseball, leading to the conquest of Serie A 5 years ago. He was the technical director and head coach of the Settimo Baseball Club.
The mayor of Settimo Torinese Elena Piastra joins in the condolences: «After the death of Pavel Tanese, the worker from Settimo who disappeared in the accident at the Bargi power plant – says Piastra – this is yet another tragedy to hit our community. We are very saddened and we join in condolences with the family.” In memory of him today the teams he played for, including Settimo and Vercelli, suspended training
