Building Team Spirit: Holten Judo Team’s Successful Boot Camp Experience

(JTH) 04/15/24 – Last weekend, around 25 young judoka from the Holten judo team from U10 to U18 stood together on the mat in a boot camp: After an extremely successful premiere for the youth last year, the format was successful into the second round. The focus: sport, fun, community and team building.

On two days, the youngest trained from nine in the morning until their lunch break at half past twelve with the more advanced and older members of the U15 and U18; For the latter, it continued until eight o’clock in the evening on both days. In typical judo games, the young and old had to prove themselves together in mixed teams of two or four and also as an entire club community in order to solve the tasks set by the trainers Finn Bittscheidt, Jens Impelmann, Alexa Kala and Nils Gnaudschun. The focus of both days was on “finding” and experiencing each other both as a team and as a club community: “We are a team, we are Judo Team Holten!” Finn Bittscheidt told his protégés at the end on Sunday evening . “We supported, helped, motivated and cheered each other on for two days. We’ll take that with us into training now and when our two U16 leagues start at the end of April: the little ones cheer on the big ones and the Bundesliga fighters cheer on the U16s, we’re a team, we’re a club!”

Start of the U16 leagues together with Bundesliga match day on April 27th

The background is that the North Rhine-Westphalia Judo Association (NWJV) has resumed U16 league operations for the first time since 2019. The Holten judo team has also registered a female and male team. The opening battles for both teams will take place here on April 27th in Mönchengladbach; On the same day, presumably after the league fights of the young judoka, the Bundesliga fighters from Holten will continue in league action against the competition from Gladbach – you can hardly offer more excitement and thrills in one day.

“We are a team, Judo Team Holten!”

But regardless of the competition aspect and the specific occasion, the trainers around Finn Bittscheidt were particularly concerned with strengthening the sense of togetherness and conveying a communal experience. “We can do so much more when we help and support each other.” “The world as we knew it is in question. In this time of “disorder” and “upheaval”, in which our children and young people have to find their way, both developmentally and with regard to new realities, we as a club and with the judo values, which include, for example, helpfulness, but also “Respect and appreciation are important, an offer that can provide orientation and support,” adds Judo Team Holten press officer Alexandra Hagenguth.

Intense days for the youngsters

Even though a lot of concentration and consideration was required of the children and young people over two intensive days, there was no shortage of joy and fun, including a spontaneous trip to the Sterkrader Volksparkstadion: tired faces but bright eyes said more than a thousand words on Sunday evening .
