Toketa Challenge: Judo Competition Takes Place in Laura Flessel Gymnasium

Saturday April 6, the Laura Flessel gymnasium was transformed into a vast dojo for the first round of the Toketa challenge.

The competition brings together around forty licensees from the Issoir club and Brassac-les-Mines, from the mini-chicks, chicks and benjamins categories. “It’s always a pleasure to return to this competition, which is already in its 14th edition,” notes Anthony Arens, coach at USI.

After the salute and warm-up, the judokas moved on to randoris (fights). The final is scheduled for June, in Brassac-les-Mines. The most distinguished, based on their victories over the two events, will then be rewarded.

The gathering also allows licensees in higher age categories to practice arbitration. “The challenge has many advantages. It is well placed in the calendar and validates the training weeks. It also serves as an entry point to the competition, to learn in stages,” adds President Alexandre Vergier.

The latter has just taken up the position in February, and is working on several projects to develop the association. “We are approaching a hundred licensees for the judo, ju-jitsu and taiso sections. But we are reaching a tipping point, where if we do not question ourselves, the risk of losing several years of work is real. To see higher and take a step forward, we need to do real work on structuring. Communication and collaboration between the office, volunteers, licensees and parents will be essential. It’s teamwork, which everyone wants to get behind,” he promises.

Between now and the end of the season, several individual competitions will be on the program for licensees, as well as grade upgrades, to validate what they have learned.
