“Miles past reality”: Shortly before the home game against Eintracht Frankfurt, Bayern coach Thomas Tuchel reacted to statements made by Uli Hoeneß with sharp words.

“If I have to swallow that now, I’ll swallow it too,” said Thomas Tuchel at some point during his interview. But at that point it was clear for a long time: he actually had no interest in swallowing it. With an emotional plea on his own behalf, the FC Bayern coach responded on Saturday afternoon to statements that Uli Hoeneß had made the day before.

“He doesn’t think he can improve a Davies, Pavlovic or Musiala. If it doesn’t work, you should buy someone else,” said the supervisory board and honorary president of FCB during a panel discussion Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung said about Tuchel. “I mean you should work hard on them and give them confidence.” He, Hoeneß, expects a coach to “improve young players and give them a hug.”

“The fact that it’s from our boss gives it a different flavor”

Words that Tuchel didn’t want to accept. “That’s so far from reality that there’s no… I don’t even know how to answer that,” he added shortly before the home game against Eintracht Frankfurt Sky first by words. “I am injured in my coaching honor. If we have proven something in the coaching team over the last 15 years: that we always give young players, especially from the academy, a place in training and on the pitch. The three examples in this incorrect content I can’t understand it. I have very little understanding of that, I find it absolutely baseless.”

Tuchel rejected the question of whether he would seek a clarifying conversation with Hoeneß. “I wouldn’t have reacted to it at all if it hadn’t come from Uli. Because it’s from our boss, and it’s four days before our game against Madrid, it takes on a different tone. It scratches my deepest understanding as a coach .”

At all his stations, whether in Mainz, Dortmund, Paris, at Chelsea or now in Munich, he has always successfully developed talent. And just “a week ago we substituted Lovro Zvonarek to reward him for his style and the effort he puts into training,” concluded Tuchel, after giving numerous examples from the “Bruchweg Boys” around André Schürrle to Christopher Nkunku had listed at PSG. His final word on Hoeneß’ statements was simply: “Strange.”

By the way, Tuchel did without Davies, Pavlovic and Musiala against Frankfurt. The former two initially sat on the bench, Musiala was missing. The second oldest starting eleven in Bayern’s history started at 30.52 years – surpassed only by the 30.61-year-old formation in the 3-1 away win in Duisburg on March 25, 2006.
