We often meet them on the stands of the gymnasium during matches. They are discreet, smiling, affable and approachable. They all have a job, a life outside the gym and often a family to take care of. However, they come, sometimes several times a week, to the gym. They arrive a little early so they can be there to welcome the children. They leave their worries and daily worries at the gym door to be as cheerful and available as possible.
Some played basketball when they were younger, others didn’t. However, they have in common a taste for effort, a desire to surpass oneself, and the pleasure of serving a team.
When we ask them about the reasons for their commitment, they often respond with words like “sharing”, “solidarity”, “sportsmanship”, “pleasure”, “love of the club”. They all have sportsmanship. Everyone has experienced it through the practice of a team sport and everyone enjoys passing on this passion to children.
An iron fist in a velvet glove, they know how to speak kindly to children to help them progress. They do not forget to transmit human values of sharing and living together through sporting practice.
They are all volunteers, volunteers and ask for nothing in return. Their names are Vicky, Vivi, Isabelle, Marion, Maëlys, Marlène, Damien and Sébastien. These are the ESG basketball coaches!
