It is no longer a secret that Ralf Rangnick was already under discussion as Bayern coach in 2019.
The ÖFB team boss revealed this to “Sport Bild” in November 2022. Niko Kovac was not followed by Rangnick, but by his assistant coach Hansi Flick, who was promoted after an interim appointment.
That was probably anything but a bad decision, after all, Munich won the treble at the end of the season. If you believe “Sport Bild”, some players would have resisted hiring Rangnick at the time.
HSV is also vying for Rangnick
When the name Rangnick came up as a potential candidate, some kickers are said to have presented themselves to the club bosses. The tabloid does not name any players.
Rangnick is currently being traded again for Bayern’s coaching search. But Bayern are not the only club that is trying to find the ÖFB team boss. The HSV is said to be interested in appointing him as sports director (read here >>>).
