The Popov Brothers’ Last Chance: Toma Junior’s Shot at the 2024 Olympic Games

The race to qualify for the 2024 Olympic Games will end this evening for the Popov brothers. If Toma Junior Popov wins his semi-final of the European Championships against world number one Axelsen, he will be the one to go to Paris! Otherwise it will be his little brother Christo.

Toma Junior Popov (n°25) is still in the race in the “Race To Paris”. The eldest Popov must go to the final of the European Championships in Saarbrücken (Germany) to get back in front of his younger brother Christo.

After dispatching the Azerbaijani Dwicahyo (n°63) yesterday in the 1/4 21/10 21/13, Tomi will now have to achieve a feat in the semi-final against the big favorite Viktor Axelsen (n°1). The Dane, who has already won the European title three times, leads 3/0 against the Fosséen who was already in bronze during the last edition.

The match is scheduled for around 7:50 p.m. and can be followed on the Badminton Europe TV website.

As a reminder, the two brothers had to give up their dream of making the Olympics together in doubles after their defeat on Thursday.
