The new maritime line that will link South America and Vigo starts |

The Port of Vigo will connect with the west and east coasts of South America through a new direct maritime line offered by the shipping company Hapag Lloyd, as reported on the website of the Galician port authority itself.

A new weekly service in Vigo that will have the following rotation: Buenaventura/Colombia – Paita/Peru – Posorja/Ecuador – Guayaquil/Ecuador – Manzanillo/Panama – Puerto Limón/Costa Rica – Cartagena/Colombia – VIGO – Málaga/Spain – Valencia/Spain – Civitavecchia/Italy – Salerno/Italy – Genoa/Italy – Livorno/Italy – Barcelona/Spain.

The ships that will make the rotation will be the Irenes Remedy, As Karelia, As Claudia, Gemlik Express, Emma A, Cape Citius, Mersin Express, and Izmit Express. In the case of Vigo, the first stop was carried out by the Irenes Remedy, which, during its stop at the Container Terminal, made just over 300 movements, between loading and unloading fruit and frozen fish.

According to the head of the port, Carlos Botana, after welcoming the captain of the ship, fruit has become one of the major traffics in the Port of Vigo in recent years. In fact, in 2023 a total of 230,039 tons of this merchandise were moved, compared to 178,877 tons in 2022, which represented an increase of +28.6%, thus consolidating it as one of the most important merchandise in the Port and highlighting, particularly, the movements of pineapple, bananas and melons. This is primarily import traffic, with Brazil, Costa Rica and Colombia standing out as the main origins.
