The Los Angeles Rams Select Jared Verse in 2024 Pride of Detroit Community Mock Draft: A Perfect Fit for Team Needs

It’s time for the Los Angeles Lions Rams to make their selection in our 2024 Pride of Detroit Community Mock Draft.

The Rams were a surprise team in 2023. Built with a ton of youth, many expected them to go through a rebuilding seasons, but they’ve reloaded with talent quickly thanks to an excellent rookie class. Of course, the Rams’ magical season saw an early postseason end when they ran into the behemoth that was the Detroit Lions, but that’s another story.

Acting as the Rams’ general manager in our POD Community Mock is commenter Mystdragoon. Before we get into their pick, catch up with the first 18 picks of the draft with our 2024 POD Community Mock tracker.

With the 19th pick in the Pride of Detroit Community Mock Draft, the Los Angeles Rams select Jared Verse, edge defender out of Florida State.

Here’s Mystdragoon with the explanation:

“The Rams have been on an absolute roller coaster over the last several seasons.

“This past season was supposed to be a rebuild year, but huge draft hits Kobie Turner and Puka Nacua led to a more competitive team than expected. They finished 7-1 after their bye, and their fans still argue an uncalled pass interference on Nacua on the Rams’ final drive cost them a playoff win in an extremely hostile environment against a very good opponent.

“So far in the free agency period, they have addressed many of their needs. For the offensive line, they’ve tendered LT Alaric Jackson, re-signed RG Kevin Dotson, and signed LG Jonah Jackson (allowing Steve Avila to slide to a more natural center position). They also brought in TE Colby Parkinson, a top-10 blocking TE in the NFL per PFF. Defensively, their secondary has been fortified with additions CB Darious Williams and S Kamren Curl. This team is ready to win now.

“Yet they still have an all-world sized hole to fill…

“Since 2014, the Rams have benefitted from drafting arguably the best defensive player in NFL history. Throughout his illustrious 10-year career, Aaron Donald only missed more than two games once (2022) and played every game in seven seasons. The impact of the retirement of Donald is going to be a tough pill to swallow. Fortunately, the Rams own a first-round pick for the first time since they selected Jared Goff in 2016. With it, they fittingly select another Jared.

“Verse plays with aggressive passion and is able to overcome some size limitations with elite burst and closing speed utilizing multiple rush moves. He is quick to diagnose, and should be a starting three-down defender out of the box. The stars align for the Rams, as a great prospect fills a huge need.

From Jared Verse’ NFL.com draft profile:

“He really sees the game well and he’s got the athleticism to go with it. I think he’ll be one of the best defensive players to come out of this draft.” – NFC executive
