From Traviesas, they highlight that Barreira Catal was a fundamental figure in the development and promotion of roller hockey in Vigo and in nearby towns such as Ponteareas, Redondela and Pontevedra. It is considered sporty father of many young people who years ago wanted to get into Vigus roller hockey. On June 3, 2024, it will be 55 years since Julio founded the Traviesas Hockey Club. We are deeply saddened that he was not able to witness the celebration of this anniversary in style. However, their spirit and legacy will endure in each of the hearts of those of us who love this sport and value its tireless dedication, they delve deeper.

Barreira had started playing hockey in Ponteareas at the age of 14 and had moved to Vigo at the age of 19, in 1955. A year later, he began playing for Traviesas, a club that he legally incorporated in 1969 and in which he remained until 1975, when he was appointed president of the Southern Galician Federation. In 1982 he left for Madrid for work reasons, returning to the city twenty years later.
