The Flying Wheels of Cergy: A Badminton Club Making a Difference

The club ” The Flying Wheels of Cergy » was founded in 1991 by three teachers from the Galilée high school. Last year, its membership reached 300 members, a first for the club in its thirty years of existence which now spreads across five gymnasiums in the city. Since 2012 at the club, as player then president, David Catrycke has been able to instill a strong dynamic by bringing the Indonesian to the club as coach Arif Rasidi who has participated in the last four Olympics as a coach. With the agglomeration, the Volants de Cergy initiated the project “ Impact 2024 » which envisaged their development along three axes: the integration of young people from “City political” neighborhoods, the increase in female participation and disabled sports. The parabadminton section was born in 2021 supported by Méril LoquetteNo. 4 in the world, bringing the club the federal label “Inclusive Club”.

Welcome everyone who wants to practice

Additional projects resulted from “Impact 2024”: interventions in schools with Arif and Méril, participation in the Cergy Olympic Week which this year became the Olympiads (end of June), integration of young graduates or children of members into the organization chart of the club and the organization of events, eco-responsible initiatives (Eco tournament of the Grande Horloge last April), agreement with the Kastler high school for flexible schedules. “The club has thus established many links with institutions and educational establishments in Cergy-Pontoise,” rejoices David, “because what is important is to welcome all those who want to practice the bad here. »
