SANTO DOMINGO. The fourth edition of the Félix Sánchez Athletics Classic will take place this Saturday on the “Luguelin Santos” track of the Sports Complex of the Bayaguana municipality, Monte Plata province.
In the athletic contest, prominent medalists from the Olympic, Pan American, World, and Central American and Caribbean Games will invade the track.
The immortal of the sport and double Olympic gold medalist, Félix Sánchez, offered the details of the competitive meeting and noted that, together with a team of men and women, they have been working on the organization of the event.
He indicated that, in addition to the national sprinters, prominent figures from regional athletics have also been invited.
Among the great attractions that will compete in the classic will be the Dominican sprinters Alexander Ogando, Yeral Núñez, Anabel Medina, Fiordaliza Cofil, José González and Franquelo Pérez, among others.
Among the internationals are Ronal Longa, from Colombia; Salwa Eid Naser, from Belarus, and Roxana Gómez Calderón, from Cuba;
Sánchez, who is also a coach, said that all the athletes are in good physical condition, since most have just taken part in the athletics competitions of the Military and Police Sports Games, and others have exhausted their preparation base outside the country.
He maintained that the athletes from the different countries in the area who will come to the “Félix Sánchez Athletics Classic” will be arriving in the country starting next Thursday morning.
Sánchez showed his satisfaction with the realization of the fourth version of the Classic, a competition that has the endorsement of the Dominican Federation of Athletics Associations and the North American, Central American and Caribbean Athletics Association.
“The fourth edition of the Classic is an effort that we make with the main objective of raising the level of athletics in the Dominican Republic. This is a way to demonstrate that our country has the conditions to celebrate sporting events of the highest level,” said Sánchez.
