Tensions Rise in Latvian Olympic Committee: President Accuses Minister’s Office of Blackmail

Last week, the family of Latvian Olympians was hit by several disturbing news at the same time – some members of the Latvian Olympic Committee (LOK) want to hold new elections early because they are dissatisfied with the current president Jānis Bukas. Meanwhile, Buk himself came up with accusations against the office of the Minister of Education and Science responsible for sports – the minister’s advisor Raivis Bergs allegedly tried to blackmail LOK. Who is right? Uldis Strautmanis talks about this in the program “Aizmagure” with LOK President Bukas, LOK General Secretary Kārli Lejniekas, Kristiānas Strengs, head of the office of the Minister of Education and Science, as well as Juri Zīvartas, Acting Director of the Sports Department of the Ministry of Education and Science (IZM).
