Tennis: France eliminated by Great Britain in Billie Jean King Cup

Hard blow for the Tricolores. France lost against Great Britain (3-1) in qualifying for the Billie Jean King Cup on Saturday at Portel and will not play in the final phase of the competition in November in Seville.

While the two teams were tied at 1 everywhere on Friday evening after the first two singles, the British Katie Boulter and Emma Raducanu won the two singles this Saturday, respectively beating the French Clara Burel (7-5, 6-0) and Diane Parry 4-6, 6-1, 7-6 (7-1). Emma Raducanu had already won against Caroline Garcia (23rd player in the world) during the second singles match (3-6, 6-3, 6-2).

While Diane Parry got off to a good start by winning the first set, she was then knocked down by the 302nd in the world, losing the third set in a tie-break. After this defeat in qualifying, the French will have to play a play-off in November to try to stay in the world group.
