Telephone Operators Union endorses support for Atento workers in Pachuca – El Sol de México

The Telephone Operators Union of the Mexican Republic (STRM), in which the workers of the Atento Servicios Call Center in Pachuca are affiliated, demands the reinstatement of the representation consultation process under conditions of neutrality and guarantees compliance with the will of the members. in terms of union freedom and democracy.

Given the series of irregularities, it is also requested to reverse the impact of the Spanish company’s intense anti-union campaign on its employees so that they can freely exercise their rights without retaliation.

In a statement, the STRM reports that despite the fact that the intervention of the Rapid Response Labor Mechanism (MLRR) of the T-MEC was requested and the labor violations were accredited to Atento workers.

That the Office of the United States Trade Representative announced that the government of Mexico accepted the review for alleged denial of labor rights, which confirmed certain actions that could have constituted violations of the freedom of association and collective bargaining.

Said announcement on March 27, 2024, indicated that some of the labor violations were repaired during the investigation period in Mexico.

“However, the Federal Center for Conciliation and Labor Registration (CFCRL) on the same day decided to grant proof of representativeness to the union promoted by the company Atento Servicios, in contradiction to an agreement of the Federal Labor Center itself, in the sense that it would give its resolution until the MLRR’s response was known.

It is clarified that the process remains open and that the STPS investigation confirmed the denial of labor rights, which include employer interference in the organization of workers.

It is also reported that this Tuesday, April 16, the trade representative of the United States, Katherine Tai, announced the installation of a panel of labor specialists from the MLRR, to resolve this labor conflict.

This is based on the fact that, although both governments agree on the denial of rights, they differ on whether the actions carried out to date are sufficient as reparation for workers.

The STRM reaffirms its commitment and support to the workers of Atento Servicios in Pachuca and will maintain the work of liaison and information with the authorities of both governments, as well as the dialogue with the company Atento Servicios.
