Teenagers Achieve Black Belt in Judo Just in Time for Spring Holidays

Sophie Panafieu and Jules Barbe, aged 16, decided to finalize their initiatory journey which leads to the black belt in judo just before the spring holidays. They are members of the Entente des dojos du Gard (EDG), which brings together the clubs of Calvisson, Aimargues and Saint-Côme.

Sophie and Jules made their teachers Jessie Vinette and Ludovic Germa proud. In attempting to obtain this coveted grade, they had to pass the tests of nage-no-kata (imposed body shape), technique (achievement, after drawing lots, of 10 projection techniques, immobilizations , keys or strangulations among a hundred referenced techniques and 2 self-defense situations among 20) and finally combativeness (10 victories by ippon). Note that Jules is also strongly involved in the world of judo as a referee.

For her part, Joanna Miagoux shone by completing a similar course, but more demanding (nage-no-kata 5 series, technical performance with a 5-minute demonstration, and 10 victories by ippon while fighting only black belts), to go obtain a highly deserved 2nd dan. Ludovic Germa, her coach, said: “Joanna’s commitment and progress over recent years and months have allowed her to become one of the highest ranking judokas in the club.”
