Akebono Taro He did not make it. The sumo ‘champion of champions’ died at the age of 54 due to a heart failure. He was considered one of the greatest fighters ever, as well as the man rekindled interest in martial arts in Japan. In 1992 he won his first tournament, before becoming the first non-Japanese to obtain the title of grand champion the following year. In 2001 he then dedicated himself to different martial arts, divided between kickboxing and wrestling. Admitted to hospital for heart disease in 2017, he had suffered serious motor sequelae, also suffering from memory loss.
