In Kufstein, Marlene Lechner, Sophia Frey and Gor Hakobjan won tournaments. Ilvie Brunner and Conner Parker on the podium.

The youngest athletes from the Wimpassinger Performance Center won five medals at their first major international tournament in Kufstein. As in previous years, the tournament was one of the most crowded international youth tournaments in Austria with 435 starters from eight different nations.

In the U12 age group, Marlene Lechner (-40 kilos) defeated all of her opponents with a hold and secured first place. Gor Hakobyan (-30 kilos) defeated his first two opponents in a strong weight class with his special technique Seoi-nage (shoulder throw). In the semi-finals he cleverly countered his opponent with waza-ari (half point), which meant he made it safely into the final. In the fight for gold he won again early with Ippon for Seoi-nage.

In the U14, Sophia Frey (-32 kilos) started the competition successfully with Waza-ari for Osoto-gari and Ippon for the subsequent hold. In the semifinals she won with a lightning victory for Ouchi-gari (leg sweep technique) and was thus in the final fight. She won the fight within just a few seconds with a choking technique.

Ilvie Brunner (-48 kilos) started the tournament with an ippon victory and also won the semi-final early with a hold. Only in the final was she surprised by her opponent, but she was happy about the silver medal she had won.

Connor Parker (-34 kilos) followed suit with his club colleagues and started with two Ippon victories. In the third fight, however, he had to admit defeat due to a hold. In the last fight he made everything clear again and was able to celebrate bronze and at the same time the fifth medal for the JCW. Yurik Hakobyan (-50 kilos) took a win in the first round. However, two defeats followed and the tournament ended early. “It’s a great feeling as a trainer, I hope things can continue to be so successful,” sums up Neo-LZ trainer Marlene Hunger.
