Bieler becomes ÖSV head coach – sport.ORF.at

Christoph Bieler will be the new head coach of the Nordic combined skiers in the Austrian Ski Association (ÖSV) and thus the successor to Christoph Eugen. The ÖSV announced this on Monday.

Bieler was a successful Nordic combined athlete himself and moved to the ÖSV support staff in 2015 immediately after the end of his active career. Together with cross-country skiing coach Jochen Strobl, the Tyrolean worked as an assistant until the end, while Bieler was responsible for jumping training.

First experiences last season

Last season, the team’s 2006 Olympic champion temporarily took on the role of head coach, as long-time boss Eugen was unable to take over as team leader due to a stroke of fate in his family.

“I am very pleased to take on the role of head coach. Even though I won’t officially be in office until the beginning of May, we’ve been working on analyzing the past season and planning for the new one since the end of the season,” said Bieler. “We will still divide the work, and with Strobl and Thomas Egger-Riedmüller I have two top trainers at my side to support me.”

Eugen will remain with the Nordic Combined and will take over the position of youth coordinator in the ÖSV. The first training group will start preparing together in mid-May with a racing bike course on Mallorca.
