Stöger rejects Bochum as a coaching candidate

The German Bundesliga club VfL Bochum, which is threatened with relegation, parted ways with coach Thomas Letsch on Monday after its recent negative series. One of the candidates for the successor was Peter Stöger. The current Admira sports director was contacted but declined, he told the daily newspaper “Heute”.

“You called me yesterday evening. It was a great conversation. It would also have been very interesting and exciting for me. I considered taking the job to get myself back into the conversation. But the short-term nature ultimately spoke against it. “Also because of the contract situation at Admira,” said Stöger, who decided against returning to the German Bundesliga.

After his time as coach of Austria Vienna (2018-2019), the 57-year-old was first head coach at 1. FC Köln (2013-2017) and then at Borussia Dortmund for six months.

The table 15th. Bochum parted ways with Letsch two days after the 2-1 defeat at direct rivals 1. FC Köln. The former DFB U21 selection coach Stefan Kuntz is considered a possible successor to the former Austria Vienna coach. The 61-year-old was once a player and manager of the Revierclub and was most recently employed as Turkey’s team boss. Bochum is currently only three points above the saving line.
