Stephen Curry and Draymond Green to Sit Out Warriors’ Regular-Season Finale

SAN FRANCISCO — Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry and forward Draymond Green will not play in the team’s regular-season finale against the Utah Jazz on Sunday afternoon.

“[Curry] I could play. If I had to play, I would,” Warriors coach Steve Kerr said before the game. “Given what we’re facing, it didn’t make sense to put him out there today. “We’re hoping to have three games this week, so getting a rest today, having time to recover before the first play-in game, that’s a lot more important.”

Gary Payton II will miss his third straight game with a left calf strain. All other players in the squad are available, including Jonathan Kuminga, who missed Friday’s game with a right pelvic bruise.

The Warriors have a chance to move up to eighth, but given the way Kerr spoke before the game, it appears they’re preparing to move up to ninth or 10th.

“We’ll most likely have to win two games on the road,” Kerr said.

Since all of the Western Conference teams’ games are taking place at the same time, Kerr said he and his staff won’t be looking at the Los Angeles Lakers and Sacramento Kings’ scores much, even though their results will have a impact on the Warriors’ seeding.

“We’ll keep an eye on the scores, but in today’s NBA, the Lakers are up by 15 with five minutes left, it’s not over,” Kerr said. “It would have to be a 30-point game in one direction or another to start thinking [en cambiar nuestro plan de juego]. Since the games are at the same time, which is by design, I don’t anticipate that will be a factor.”
