Stefanos Tsitsipas won the final of the ATP 1000 Masters in Monte Carlo for the third time. The Greek put in a fantastic performance and won Casper Ruud with 6:1 and 6:4.

For Casper Ruud, tenth in the world rankings, it could have been the biggest title win of his career. So far, he has won titles at ATP 250 tournaments. Tsitsipas, on the other hand, has already won two Masters titles, namely here in Monte-Carlo. The Greek was in the final of this tournament for the third time today. And so far he has always come out of the final with a title. Same today.
No question: Tsitsipas played wonderful tennis and roared past Casper Ruud in the first set. The final started very well for the Norwegian, as he started the match with an ace. After that, the tenth in the world rankings allowed many break opportunities and Tsitsipas took advantage of them brilliantly. The Greek applied great pressure and sent Ruud across the sand. The Norwegian made too many unforced errors and Tsitsipas played with increasing confidence and took the first set 6-1.
The second movement had a different dynamic. The service games became significantly longer and Ruud gained more stability. He followed Tsitsipas’ example and played a lot of serve and volley, which was at least enough to secure his serve. Tsitsipas responded with soulful drop shots. The Greek kept his nerve and was able to fend off Ruud’s break opportunities. In the service game at 3:3, the Norwegian had eight of them. The second set was tough again, but Tsitsipas couldn’t take the match out of his hands. He earned a match point (40:30) at 5:4 on his own serve and converted it straight away. This meant that Tsitispas was able to become champion in Monte Carlo for the third time.
