Special Olympics Returns to La Louvière: Inclusion and Sportsmanship at the 40th Edition

This adapted tournament is today the only one still organized in the Wallonia-Brussels federation. The demand, however, still exists. “Flanders organizes more but often via sports clubs and not via institutions, as is the case here,” explains Olivier Duplouy, sports manager for the Résidence l’Air de Paix.

”We welcome participants from the four corners of Belgium. It is in a way a way of returning the favor by inviting those who welcome us the rest of the year, to please the residents but also and above all to show that inclusion is not just a word. fashion: it is an integral part of the values that we defend on a daily basis.”

The Special Olympics return to La Louvière for the 40th edition

There is no question of depriving residents of their sporting activities under the pretext of a mental disability. “Sport is accessible to everyone, respecting everyone’s abilities. In our club, there are two champions who will participate in the Special Olympics competitions organized in La Louvière. Some have been practicing judo for many years.”

And because sharing remains, here again, an essential value, collective training will be offered in the morning. “It mixes adapted and non-adapted athletes and will be given by Anne-Sophie Jura. The competition will take place from 1:30 p.m. It will be supervised by professional referees. We will also be able to count on the presence of physiotherapists.”

The event is open to everyone. The public is therefore welcome to come and support the athletes on the different combat surfaces which will be reserved for them.
