Sigma Coach Laments Defeat after Tough Loss: “We Scored Very Cheap Goals”

“This defeat hurts me a lot. Unfortunately, we scored very cheap goals. We are struggling,” Sigma coach Václav Saňák was relieved.

At the same time, until Zlín’s opening goal in the 36th minute, his team’s performance was not bad. “After a long time, we entered the league match decently. We had a good organization of the game. But then we left too much space for the finishing Slončík. And then we got a goal from a set piece, from which we hadn’t conceded before for maybe two years. It helped the home team a lot, mistakes like that bring us down,” he lamented.

Moreover, before Ševci’s first goal, Olomouc considered that the opponent played the ball into the box. “That’s how we saw it and we were convinced of it,” revealed Saňák. “But if the video referee evaluated it differently, we believe him,” he said conciliatoryly.

He denied that he would have cursed goalkeeper Matúš Macík, who made a gross mistake in the last duel with Pardubice, who was missing from the match report. “Macík is injured. He tried it the day before the game, but he couldn’t catch it. Otherwise, he would have been in goal,” claimed Saňák.

Macík’s place was taken by the young Tadeáš Stoppen. “At 0:3, he kept us at two more Zlín tutukas. Otherwise, a bigger problem could have happened to us,” he praised the 20-year-old goalkeeper.

Olomouc defender Lukáš Vraštil acknowledged that the three conceded goals were too many. “It’s terribly wrong. In this situation, it was very difficult to score points in Zlín. At the same time, we wanted to start from a solid defense,” he sighed.

In the end, however, hope for at least a draw dawned on Sigma. “It just needed a little bit more luck in the Zlín 16 and a little more luck. But it would probably be a miracle if we eventually grabbed a point,” acknowledged Vraštil.

He denied that Olomouc footballers were under pressure due to Sigma fans protesting against the club’s current management. “They came to us on Friday for training and supported us in Zlín,” he appreciated.

The Hanáci added only two goals to their only win in Ostrava in the spring. “How to get out of the result misery? We train at one hundred percent. We need to get over the fact that we don’t get a goal and instead we score some. We have enough smart guys up front for that. We must continue to work honestly. We certainly don’t lack determination,” Vráštil is sure.

He was already preparing for the next league match, in which Olomouc will host Jablonec footballers. “We’ll drive him to the limit,” he decided.
