Shohei Ohtani’s Program with ECC Enables Japanese Students to Study in the USA, Application Deadline Extended Due to Website Overload

ECC operates a large and popular English language and conversation school in Osaka. The teaching institute also oversees a program that was founded by the Japanese baseball star Shohei Ohtani. This enables 100 children from Japan to go to the USA to learn.

The application deadline for online applications has now been extended because towards the end the request was so large that the website was unavailable for a long time due to overload. The ECC presented the program at the beginning of March. Under the title “Show Your Dreams 2024,” 100 Japanese children from fourth grade to third year of high school will have the opportunity to study in the United States.

The children are accommodated in host families, with the entire cost being covered by the school. Applicants must write an essay of at least 400 characters in Japanese on the topic “Dreams for the Future” and submit a video message in English. The application deadline was originally April 14th, but due to problems with the website, this was extended by three days to April 17th.

Shohei Ohtani, star of the Los Angeles Dodgers baseball team, is a brand ambassador for the ECC. According to the ECC, the program’s registration website experienced an unexpectedly high rate of visits on the evening of April 14, leaving many interested parties struggling to connect.

There are already more than 10,000 applicants

Many young Japanese contacted the school via social media who wanted to upload their essays and videos, but were no longer able to apply because the website was unavailable. Many asked for an extension of the registration deadline so that they could still apply. By April 15, over 10,000 applications had already been received.

The ECC therefore extended the deadline once until the afternoon of April 17th, primarily to give those who were no longer able to register due to server problems the chance. However, it was also made clear that there will be no further extension and those responsible expect all interested parties to have submitted their applications by 5 p.m. on April 17th at the latest.
