Daniil Medvedev and Jiri Lehecka once faced each other in the run-up to the last quarter-finals at the ATP Masters event in Madrid. In the round of 16 at Wimbledon last year, the Russian took the first two sets before the Czech had to retire due to injury.

At the beginning of the match, both players tried to explore their respective opponents’ tactical tricks and initially looked for rhythm as receivers with little success. In the fifth game, Medvedev grabbed his groin and had himself treated in the catacombs during the break. The 28-year-old was visibly impaired on the outside and faced two break balls, but was able to win the long service game. In the next service game, the 22-year-old Lehecka got another opportunity to break and was able to take advantage of it. With a confident service game without little resistance, he secured the first round.

After the converted set point, Medvedev rushed to the net and indicated that it would not continue. The second game between the two on the tour ended prematurely due to an injury. With the submission victory at 6:4 in 37 minutes, Lehecka reached the semi-finals of a Masters event for the first time.
