Senegal’s Judo Team Finishes 8th in African Senior Championships, Eyes Olympic Qualification

Senegal finished in 8th place in the 45th edition of the African Senior Judo Championships which took place from April 25 to 28. With the silver medal of Georgette Sagna and the two bronze medals won by Mbagnick Ndiaye and Saliou Ndiaye, Senegal Senegal could not do better than the results of the previous 2023 African Championships in Morocco where the Senegalese team had won a gold medal thanks to Mbagnick Ndiaye, two silver medals and three bronze medals. With this harvest obtained at the Cairo jousts, judo is therefore postponing its ambition of qualifying for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. The doors to qualifying for the Olympic Games are not completely closed. Better placed in the continental ranking in the category (+100 kg), Mbagnick Ndiaye, still has an opportunity to qualify and also free up a place for Abderrahmane Diao (+90 kg) thanks to the continental quota. Just like Monica Sagna (+78 kg) who is currently in third place in Africa in her category, they are expected at the Abidjan International Open which will take place from June 6 to 9 and at the Marrakech Open.
