Teammate Sebastian Ofner failed in the round of 16 against Alexander Zverev on Tuesday. Unfortunately, his team colleague Dominic Thiem did not make it into the main field of the 1000 Masters tournament in Monte Carlo. Thiem failed in two sets against Roberto Bautista Agut, who had already been taken out of the tournament by Hurkacz. Thiem is currently struggling with a lot of ups and downs and cannot find his way back to his actual level.

Ofner spoke to “Sky” in an interview about Thiem’s condition. “It’s a difficult situation for him,” said Ofner. Thiem has the experience, he was at a top level, as Ofner emphasized. “Only he can help himself out of this,” continued the 27-year-old Ofner. He also explained that it wasn’t an advantage that so many people were talking about Thiem. The former world number three has to see for himself how he can fight his way out of this difficult phase. “And only he (Thiem) knows best how to do it,” emphasized Ofner.

Ofner about Zverev: “Can win a tournament like that”

The Austrian only had positive things to say about his opponent in the round of 16 in the “Sky” interview. He even believes he can win the Masters tournament. At the same time, Ofner also summed up that he still needed a little bit to be able to keep up with Zverev. The 27-year-old sees the biggest differences, especially in the serve. After the early exit in Monte Carlo, Ofner’s eyes are already looking forward again. Next port of call: The ATP 500 tournament in Barcelona.
