Schubert at the start of the Boulder World Cup eighth – sport.ORF.at

Lead climbing world champion Jakob Schubert from Tyrol took eighth place at the Boulder World Cup opener in Shaoxing, China. His teammate Jan-Luca Posch finished tied for ninth place in the Keqiao district on Wednesday. European champion Nicolai Uznik came 14th, Tomoa Narasaki and young star Sorato Anraku celebrated a Japanese double victory.

“Overall, I’m very happy with the whole competition and with my form. It’s been a very long time since I achieved such a good result at the first Boulder World Cup of the season. The result as a team was good, a cool performance from all of us,” said Schubert, who however mourned an even better result. “It was certainly possible to do more. I missed the chance to be at the front.”

No start in lead

The first lead competition of the season follows this weekend in Wujiang. Schubert and Jessica Pilz, who has also already qualified for the Olympics, will skip this event. “The advantage of already qualifying for the Olympics is that I can train like I do most years. I train boulder first and then lead, so I haven’t trained lead yet,” Schubert said.
