Having been in the lead for almost 34 minutes during the match, the basketball players of Salaspils sports school, however, experienced a loss in the second game of the National League final series at home against the basketball club “Jelgava”, which now achieved a 2-0 advantage. The third game in the series up to three wins is scheduled for Saturday in Jelgava.
Salaspils basketball players have provided their fans with the second final in two years – last year they competed with the basketball club “Sigulda/Modern house” in the decisive games of the Regional League, this year they are fighting for the championship title in a higher ranking society against the Jelgava team.
In the finals, the Salaspilians started the second game very determinedly – successfully finished the first nine attacks and by the middle of the first quarter had already achieved a solid advantage (14:2, 21:11). Then the Jelgava basketball players gradually started to play and reduced the difference to six points in the middle of the half (24:18). In the second quarter, the home team again increased their lead to 13 points (38:25), but the guests were better in the second half of this period as well – at the break, it was only 43:41 in favor of the Salaspils team.
Moments after the break, the home team lost for the first time (43:46), but quickly regained the lead, maintained a 2-5 point advantage for a long time and increased it to 76:67 six minutes before the end of the regular time. The last time Salaspils was in the lead two minutes before the end (79:78), but the end turned out to be completely unsuccessful. Half a minute before the end, a free throw was missed from under the basket (the score at that time was 81-82), a ball was lost in the last attack (81-84) and in the end the loss was 81-86.
Dāvis Klegeris (18 points), Kristiāns Pastors, Edgars Štelmahers (both 13), Reinis Ottersons (11) and Jānis Pozņaks (10 points) scored the most in the ranks of the Salaspils sports school team.
On Saturday at 17.00, the rivals will meet for the third time in Jelgava. If the people of Salaspils manage to win, the fourth game of the NBL final series is scheduled for April 24 in Salaspils.
