Salamanca Shines in the Children’s and Cadet Regional Judo Championships of Castilla y León

On April 6, the Castilla y León Regional Championship for children and cadets was held. The Club traveled to Valladolid with a team made up of 36 judokas from both categories. This championship is a qualifier for the Spanish School Championship that will be held in Pamplona on April 27 and 28.

In this edition they achieved a new record, with the Salamanca es Judo association being the entity with the most medals obtained (a total of 21) in Castilla y León in the children’s and cadet categories.

Cadet Category

The day began early in the morning with the cadet category, with all the children and family members supporting them from the stands. This category is a great leap within the Judo competition since upon entering it you compete with the absolute regulations.

“We are very proud of the work of these judokas. Teamwork, perseverance and a lot of effort from all of them and the results confirm it,” they maintain.

They have highlighted the work of Maika Estevez, Sofía Haro, Noa García, Yara Hernández, Mario Rodríguez, Miguel Rodríguez, Jorge Nacar, Eduardo García-Miguel, Diego Martín, Mario de Pedro and Javier Díaz who, despite not getting on the podium, They had a great championship and made it very difficult for their rivals to win.

A large part of the team is second-year cadets, so next year they will maintain their category.

Family meal

After the medal presentation, the entire children’s and cadet team traveled with their families to a nearby park to celebrate the traditional family meal of the two categories. “We understand that those who jump onto the tatami do not do it alone since they could not achieve it without the support of all their teammates and family, so this joint celebration is part of the championship,” they say.

Children’s category

The children’s competition began early in the afternoon and with it our children’s team jumped onto the tatami, largely made up of first-year judokas for whom this edition was their first regional level championship.

“The whole team did good fights despite the nerves of experiencing their first competition,” they detailed, finally managing to reach the medal positions:

The children’s team maintained a high level throughout the competition and although they could not reach the medal positions, Verónica Cespedes, Victoria Ferraretto, Pedro Delgado, Daniel Gil and Alejandro Alayo performed at a high level and began their journey in the competition on the right foot.
