Ruud Cruises Past Müller in Barcelona Opener

Ruud contient Müller

Three days after losing the final in Monte-Carlo, Casper Ruud reinitiated a positive dynamic. The Norwegian logically won on Wednesday for his entry into the second round of the ATP 500 tournament in Barcelona against the French Alexandre Müller, 110th in the world, in two sets (6-3, 6-4) and a little less than a hour and a half of play (1h28 exactly). In the 3rd round, the 3rd seed of the event will face Jordan Thompson and Jaume Munar.

Certainly, Ruud generally mastered his subject this Wednesday, but the score does not say everything about Müller’s resistance. The latter was the first to break (0-2) before conceding 5 consecutive games and dropping the first set again on his serve. The Norwegian broke away quite quickly in the second act (6-3, 4-1), but the Frenchman continued to believe in it, so much so that he broke when Ruud was serving for the 6-a-side match. -3, 5-3 with a superb long line backhand. Unfortunately for him, he gave up his commitment once too often in the process. Despite many responding to the exchange, he suffered when the Norwegian took the game on his own with a forehand.

Humbert does not continue

Coming out of a very promising quarter-final in Monte-Carlo on his least good surface, clay, Ugo Humbert failed to restart the machine in Barcelona. On Wednesday, the French number 1 fell on a bone in the person of the Serbian Dusan Lajovic, a confirmed landman and 59th in the world, for his entry into the running in the 2nd round. Messin lost with a score of 6-4, 6-4 in 1h16 of play. Lajovic will face Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in the 3rd round.

Humbert particularly suffered behind his first ball, winning barely more than half of the points when it passed (55%). He especially experienced a big slump in the second set which he had started with a break and leading 3-0, conceding five consecutive games, then the match.
